According to an expert from the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Kashan, the history of coppersmithing in Kashan is more than seven thousand years. It was highly prevalent during the Safavid period and received significant support during the reign of Karim Khan Zand.

People living in the Iranian plateau used pottery, creating objects from clay that resulted in astonishing and useful artifacts after baking.

. They observed incidentally while performing these tasks that some of their pots did not break upon impact, and sometimes a substance was expelled due to the heat these pottery vessels received in the kiln. After cooling, this substance became hard and stiff.

They named this substance “copper” and used it extensively in making vessels, agricultural tools, etc.

The Kashan market is one of the important tourist attractions of this city, dating back to the reign of Fath Ali Shah Qajar when it was established.

One of the most important and valuable buildings that were built in this market is the coppersmiths’ market, which was unique in Iran due to its good and unparalleled design.

The Kashan market has more than one hundred and twenty small and large shops with forecourts and mezzanines, extending from the government gate or the current city hall square to Feiz square.
